Informed Choices MATTER

As we prepare for the 2024 presidential election in the United States, one issue stands out prominently and continues to ignite debates: abortion rights. With recent shifts in legislation and the overturning of Roe v. Wade casting a shadow over reproductive rights, it's increasingly evident that abortion will be a pivotal factor in many campaigns.

For those who are passionate about the issue of abortion, the impending election requires the crucial step of educating yourself about where candidates stand on abortion rights. Understanding their perspectives, voting records and policy stances will be instrumental in making informed decisions at the ballot box.

In recent months we have seen significant changes in the fight against abortion restriction. Texas holds one of if not the strictest abortion laws in the country limiting access to abortion after six weeks with little expectation. Ohio had its own version of a similar restriction. On November 7th voters in Ohio passed Issue 1 which you can read about here. The issue deemed the previous restrictive law unconstitutional and added an amendment to the Ohio constitution protecting abortion rights. This was a huge success for pro-choice advocates.

The people of Texas have also been inspired to stand up against the controversial restrictions and we see a unique event taking place explained in an AP News article: Texas women who could not get abortions despite health risks take challenge to state’s Supreme Court

As we see these changes beginning to surface around the country it is important to recognize that the issue extends beyond partisan lines. It involves fundamental questions of bodily autonomy, healthcare access, and the role of government in personal decisions.  It is crucial for voters to examine potential candidates thoroughly.

This advice does not only go for abortion but can be applied to ALL controversial topics in the United States including but not limited to gun control, immigration, climate change, etc. We hold the power to vote for change, make sure when you are using the privilege of your vote you are informed correctly.
